Deciding which data recovery service to send your stuck hard drive to is a tough decision. At least most services will not charge you if they are not successful in retrieving some of your data.
You should always routinely back up your important data to at least one other source. There are quite a few good data recovery help services out there that do a good job in retrieving data files, but they are pretty costly and the whole process is pretty much a pain to go through.
